PCHETA Passes Through The House, Next The Senate

Hospice Care of the Lowcountry July 25, 2018 Leave a Comment

Here is a blog post we wanted to share by Hospiceactionnetwork.org:

In the last week, we had over 1,000 ADVOCATES reach out to their Representatives, and thanks to your hard work, Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (H.R. 1676), passed in the House of Representatives today!

Research from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine indicates that there is a shortage of adequately trained hospice or palliative care providers in America. Additionally, a 2017 study by the George Washington University Healthcare Institute estimates that there will be no more than 1 percent growth in the palliative care and hospice physician workforce in the next 20 years, while the number of people eligible for palliative care will increase by over 20 percent. PCHETA addresses this problem by providing palliative medicine training in a variety of settings, including hospice. This bi-partisan, bi-cameral legislation will also establish a program to enable hospice and palliative physicians to train teams of interdisciplinary healthcare professionals in palliative and hospice care techniques.

The passage of this bill in the House is something to celebrate; however we aren’t done!

Let’s keep up this great momentum and get PCHETA through the Senate. You can use our PCHETA Action Center to send an email, make a phone call, and post to social media asking your Senators to support PCHETA.

Thank you for your ongoing advocacy, and for all you do for patients and families nationwide!
