Our compassionate care for the terminally ill is designed for each patient to manage pain and control symptoms of a life threatening disease or condition. Hospice is for those individuals who are no longer receiving curative treatment. The care extends also to the patient’s family, providing emotional and spiritual support to all who walk this journey together, Having Hospice Care of the Lowcountry come into the home allows the patient and family time together as we help them approach the end of life comfortably and peacefully.
Palliative Home Health
Hospice Care of the Lowcountry is uniquely licensed in our community to provide palliative home health care to those with a terminal diagnosis while they seek life-prolonging treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation. The same hospice principles of pain management and symptom control are applied, and the same approach to caring for the entire family is the focus of our care.
We have always cared for children, and we have developed a specific model of pediatric palliative care. Because of our unique license as a hospice home health agency, we can help children as soon as they are diagnosed with a potentially life limiting condition. This comprehensive and highly specialized range of home-based nursing care can be delivered concurrently with life-prolonging treatments. Our care is focused on enhancing the quality of life for the child and family.
Saving Grace
We are guided by our mission to care for anyone, regardless of financial circumstance. As long as a person’s terminal diagnosis meets the criteria for hospice care, we will do whatever it takes to provide pain control, symptom management and support for the patient and family.
Community Bereavement
Perhaps the most wide-reaching of all of our programs is our bereavement support. Provided by a liscensed grief counselor, bereavement services are offered to the entire community at no charge. On going support groups meet regularly and others meet as requested. Private sessions with our counselor are available in the home or our hospice office.
Camp TLC
In addition to our general bereavement services, we offer our annual Camp TLC, Youth Bereavement Camp Day, for children who have experienced a loss. Thanks to community support, there is never a charge to attend.
LifeSong Music Therapy
Our licensed music therapist can often connect through music with patients who are non-verbal or non-responsive in any other way. Music therapy is clinically proven to reduce pain, lower blood pressure and make breathing easier. Sometimes found memories are rekindled that involve music or dancing, and provides emotional comfort for patients and families.
Hos-Pets
There is ample evidence that pets enrich the lives of their families. Hos-pets volunteers and their specially trained dogs visit with our patients as well as residents in local care facilities, providing another avenue for humans to connect with another living creature. All of our Hos-Pets dogs are certified Canine Good Citizens.
