To mark the nationwide recognition of November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, in 2005 Hospice Care of the Lowcountry launched its first Speakers Bureau. The purpose of the Bureau is to provide the community with information and education about the benefits of hospice and palliative care.

Speakers are available to local groups, including schools, businesses, religious organizations, healthcare groups, civic and social clubs, at no charge.

Among the topics are:

. Hospice: It's About How You Live
. 10 Myths of Hospice
. Caring for the Caregiver
. Plan Ahead: Advance Directives and Living Will
. Beyond the Bedside: The Value of the Hospice Team
. What Do I Say? How to Talk to a Friend with a Serious Illness
. Good Grief: Coping After a Loss
. Spiritual Perspectives on End-of-Life Issues
. How to Know When It's Time for Hospice
. How Children Grieve and How You Can Help Them
. Surviving the Holidays After Losing a Loved One

Other topics are available upon request. Presentations can be adjusted to the particular interests of the audience and to any timeframe. To schedule a speaker or for more information, call Darlene Schuetz, at 843.706.2296.
